The presentation focuses on the Parliaments’ role in conflict mediation/resolution given the “new” face of conflict in the SADC region. It is informed by the recognition that the viability of a regional parliamentary organization such as the SADC Parliamentary Forum depends on the first instance, on the existence of common norms and values. The comparative advantage for institutional and capacity strengthening of Parliaments to be involved in mediation/resolution of conflicts in the SADC region are explored, along with sharing experiences and lessons learned on peace building. The fundamental challenge is, how can Parliaments and Parliamentarians effectively contribute to regional peace and stability?
