This publication draws on an interview with Secretary General Martin Chungong at the close of his 12-year tenure. Elected in 2014, he made history as the first African and first non-European to lead the IPU, and was subsequently re-elected twice. The interview, conducted on 24 February 2026, used photographs as prompts to guide the conversation and reflect on key moments of his mandate.
