The purpose of this paper is to present some empirical evidence which largely supports Epstein’s view [that] “the fact that Canadian parties resemble the British in their crucial cohesion can only […] be attributed to the presence in Canada of a British parliamentary system”. Moreover, the author also presents data which suggest that the party caucus plays a limited role in facilitating cohesive action.
