High-level Seminar on the Universalisation of the Biological Weapons Convention in Africa.
To promote awareness of the universalization of the Biological Weapons Convention (BWC) in Africa, the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA) and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) will hold a high-level seminar at the IPU Headquarters in Geneva. This event will bring together representatives from African countries that have not yet joined the BWC, the pioneering treaty that bans an entire category of weapons of mass destruction and remains essential for global peace and security. The seminar will focus on the role of parliamentarians in advancing their countries' accession to the treaty. Participants will collaborate with UNODA, treaty depository governments, and regional counterparts to enhance cooperation. This gathering will provide a valuable forum to discuss treaty accession or ratification and broader disarmament initiatives.
